What has changed from the 1st Printing?
The Second Printing includes several refinements based on player feedback:
• Typo corrections and minor clarity updates • Mission books separated so narrative text and maps are in different books, making the game easier to set up on various table sizes and easier to localize • Refinements to the Fumble system to increase player agency and reduce frustration
Gameplay balance and core design remain intact. This is a refinement, not a redesign. 1st edition owners may download the updated Rulebook and Errata from our website to play with all 2nd edition changes.

Dice games are too luck-based. What does Phantom Epoch do to address that?
Phantom Epoch is built around risk vs reward with player agency.
Players choose which dice they roll. Higher-risk dice offer higher rewards, allowing you to decide how bold or conservative to be on any given turn.
In the 1st Printing, we heard feedback about frustration around Fumbles. We developed and extensively tested a variant that expanded player choice. It was so well received by playtesters that we incorporated it into the core rules for the Second Printing.
When a Fumble is rolled, players now choose how to respond:
• End their attacks and remain standing • Push through at a cost. Resolve the attack and continue acting, but suffer a setback
In many cases, you can still deal damage and maintain momentum. Equipment, attachments, and class abilities can further reduce, negate, or even flip the downside into an upside.
Bad rolls can still happen, but they no longer halt your momentum. Decisions matter before and after the dice are cast.

Why are there no stretch goals?
All gameplay content is already complete.
Rather than gate content behind funding milestones, we are focusing on delivering a polished, production-ready experience from day one. This also allows us to move directly into manufacturing once the campaign concludes, reducing delays.

Is the $50,000 funding goal real?
Yes.
If the campaign funds at $50,000, we will manufacture and deliver the project. We are, of course, targeting higher internally to strengthen margins and expand reach, but the project will not be cancelled if it funds at the goal.

Can I late pledge?
Yes.
Late pledging will be available through the pledge manager. However, Kickstarter pricing is exclusive to the campaign. Late pledges will be offered at MSRP.

Are there Kickstarter exclusives?
There are no gameplay exclusives.
However:
• The Kickstarter pricing is aggressively discounted to reward backers • The Martial Artist and Energist classes are bundled with Exiles of Volan for Kickstarter backers only

Will I have to pay tariffs?
At present we are not planning to charge U.S. backers additional tariff fees.
Global trade policy can change, and no publisher can fully predict future conditions. That said, we fulfilled our first campaign during the height of tariff uncertainty without requiring additional payments from backers. We intend to continue doing everything in our power to avoid unexpected costs.

Will I have to pay VAT or GST?
Yes.
• UK and EU backers will be charged VAT in the pledge manager, as required by law. • Canadian backers will be charged GST in the pledge manager.
These are government-mandated taxes and are not retained by us.

How accurate are the shipping estimates?
We will be subsidizing a significant portion of shipping costs and do not intend to exceed our published estimates.
Freight markets can fluctuate, and while we cannot guarantee global stability, we are moving into production immediately after the campaign concludes to minimize exposure to cost volatility.
As with tariffs, we approach pricing conservatively and communicate early and transparently if circumstances change.

Will Phantom Epoch be available in French and Spanish?
Yes! Phantom Epoch will be available in fully localized French and Spanish editions, including all applicable campaign content and add-ons. These are complete versions of the game, not language packs.
You won’t choose your language during the Kickstarter campaign. Instead, you’ll select your preferred language later in the pledge manager.
To help us plan production, we’ll send a short survey during the campaign asking which language you plan to order. If you intend to get the French or Spanish edition, please take a moment to respond.
Important: French and Spanish print quantities will be based on demand, so completing the survey helps ensure we manufacture enough copies.

Will there be an upgrade pack for existing owners?
First it’s important to note that there are not huge differences between the 1st printing and the 2nd printing. The biggest difference is that the mission text will be moved to a separate book from the maps. This isn’t a straight upgrade; as some prefer them together, some prefer them apart. The main purpose is to facilitate translation.
The second biggest difference is the updated Fumble rule in the rulebook, and other minor clarifications. The fully updated rulebook will be available digitally from our website.
We will gauge interest on having an upgrade pack that includes the new mission text book and the updated rulebook in our pledge manager. If enough original backers are interested, we will print them!

Why can't I select the Energist and Martial Artist add-ons for my pledge?
During the Kickstarter (and only during the Kickstarter), we are bundling the Energist and Martial Artist with the Exiles of Volan campaign for FREE. Regardless of what pledge tier you get the Exiles of Volan box in, you will be getting the Energist and Martial Artist with it.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
By confirming your survey, you are confirming your reward selection, add-ons, shipping address, and any additional charges shown in BackerKit.
Refunds: Refund requests may be made until final production quantities are locked and freight planning begins. This is currently expected around July/August 2026, and we will announce the final cutoff before it takes effect. Approved refunds may exclude unrecoverable Kickstarter, BackerKit, Stripe, payment processing, and platform fees.
After final production quantities are locked, refunds may no longer be available because rewards, freight, and fulfillment quantities will have been committed.
Address Changes: Backers are responsible for keeping their shipping address up to date before address lock. We will announce the address lock deadline before fulfillment begins. If a package is shipped to an outdated or incorrect address, additional shipping costs may be required to resend it.
Damaged or Missing Components: If your reward arrives damaged or with missing components, please contact us with photos and details so we can help resolve the issue.
Thank you for supporting Phantom Epoch.
